Car-Mic Enterprises was started in May of 1972 by Carl and Michael Wissler. They began by making caps for pick-up trucks part-time while they still held full time positions in other workplaces. They finally took the plunge and decided to give it a try full-time. They manufactured the wooden truck cap, eventually making the aluminum cap and distributing their products to 150 RV and truck cap dealers along the East Coast, from Maine to Norfolk, VA.
The business started in an alley in Lancaster, PA with just Carl and Mike. They moved to an old feed mill in Leola and hired additional workers. There was an electrical fire and the business was forced to relocate to an old RV parts supply warehouse. The hired several more workers plus a sales man. Eventually, in 1976, they moved to an old canning factory in Delta PA. The business flourished and grew with the aluminum cap becoming more and more in demand. However, another fire forced them to rethink their future and decided it was time to move into another phase of business – selling retail. In 1984, they opened a lot in Willow Street, PA. In 1987, the closed the manufacturing plant and moved to their present location at 789 Flory Mill Rd Lancaster, PA.
Since 1987, the business has grown. Car-Mic recently underwent a major transformation, building a new showroom, storage area, and expanding the workshop. With a client base of truck dealers in Lancaster, York, Berks, Dauphin, and Chester Counties and a successful retail business, they have become the largest truck accessory and sport utility source in Central PA. Car-Mic is now the largest single lot dealer for Leer Truck Caps in the United States.
